"I will never ever shoot boudoir portraits….ever...." or so I thought.... →

Nicole Gates November 19, 2021

When I started my photography career I vowed to never shoot boudoir! Can you believe it? I saw so much out there that was called boudoir and I honestly didn’t like it. Some of it was just a little cringe worthy. Not classy and not showing women in a beautiful light or beautiful elegant poses. I didn't like some of the expressions on their faces and they seemed awkward, posed or forced. I didn't connect with them and couldn't see their inner goddess. Too much boudoir work has this “come hither” stuff that did not appeal to me as a woman or as a photographer. And sometimes it seemed that nudity was not needed to create a beautiful image, although nudity itself never bothered me. It just didn't highlight a woman in the right way.

Then, little by little as I was photographing my clients, I started seeing all these amazing women in my studio during their shoots as beautiful beings with amazing curves and a sensual, feminine side and I started creating images to bring that out. I didn't realize at the time that I was in fact creating boudoir work, my way. Sometimes I called it dressed boudoir because women don’t always wear lingerie. We can look just as desirable in an old t-shirt and knee high socks, an old comfy sweater, or even just a white bedsheet.

I recently launched a separate Instagram account to house all my boudoir work. The images below gives you an idea of what my type of boudoir looks like. I almost wish there was a different name other than boudoir.

I want women to connect to their sensual side during their shoot. I want women to feel feminine again.

Why?

Most women forget that sensual side of themselves because they are too busy running companies, running the world, preparing school lunches, changing diapers, cleaning house, chauffeuring, cooking, and taking care of everyone else etc etc.

I think it's incredible to stop and take time to reconnect with that woman inside of you. That inner goddess that EVERY woman has inside. Some of us just don't know how to "be that way." Some women will say…I don't know how to look like that…I dont know how to look sexy….or even…I feel stupid trying to look sexy like that.

That's what this shoot is for. It's a fully guided shoot in an all female by appointment only studio one McAllen, Texas. I help you with wardrobe styling, and gentle posing guidance to create beautifully elegant images of you. You will feel beautiful. You will feel desirable because you will see and feel it. And…you will walk away with beautiful art and a reminder that you are incredible and worthy of your femininity. Your inner goddess will be very pleased.

My photographs are for the women in the photos. Have a shoot like this for yourself first.

I want women to look at the photos and say "I want to BE LIKE her," and not " I want to be WITH her." There is a huge difference.

You too can be like this!!!

I love photographing families, women, and brands. But every once in a while I need to make something that’s just… different.

A little editorial. A little cinematic. A little weird in the best possible way. Always a little rebellious. A
